This image of the bell tower of the old Anglican Cantonment Church of Karnal. This was part of the st. James Cantonment Church of Karnal, which was the most important garrison north of Delhi. Due to an epidemic, and in order to tackle the rising power of the Sikhs, the Cantonment was shifted to Ambala. While moving out, the Army wanted to dismantle and take away the material of the church, but considering the fact that the civilians had also contributed to the church building, they left the belfry intact. The cemetery next to the tower also has the tomb of Gen. Anson, Commander in Chief of British Army who dies at Panipat in 1857, while rushing to Delhi to quell the Mutiny!
